The Senior Services deputy program is an essential part of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office’s community oriented policing efforts. The main purpose of this program is to reduce victimization of seniors (60 years of age and older) through partnerships and education. The Sheriff’s Office has formed partnerships with several different organizations that serve the senior citizens of Kendall County. The program is designed to provide increased interactions with deputies and senior citizens. This increased interaction allows them to work collectively to solve problems, educate each other, and work in cooperation enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens who reside in Kendall County.
The Senior Services deputy has received specialized training to better assist this growing senior population in Kendall County. The senior services deputy plays an active role in preventing and investigating crimes against older adults.
The program was created on January 1, 2016 under the leadership of Sheriff Dwight A. Baird. Sheriff Baird believes that, dedicating a deputy full time to partner with senior citizens and senior provider organizations is the first step in helping senior citizens avoid becoming victims of a crime. The goal of these partnerships is crime prevention through education. We strive to educate senior citizens on how to avoid becoming victims of a crime and what to do if they unfortunately become a victim of a crime.
