A highly-skilled and highly-educated labor supply is essential to business success. Kendall County is committed to help create a well-trained and dynamic workforce that can match or exceed the needs of industry.  Whether seeking a new skill or improving existing ones, our residents have a wide range of training programs right at their fingertips. Businesses can work with local institutions to help fill their workforce needs.

Kendall County regularly produces job fairs and workforce training fairs and events. Workforce development partners include:

 

Waubonsee Community College

Waubonsee Community College’s Workforce Education department works with learners and employers alike to offer in-person customized training opportunities as well as online learning options. Waubonsee’s subject matter experts can design competency-based training specific to a company’s internal needs, whether on-site one of the college’s four campuses or conveniently held within your own facility. Online training options provides individuals skills to improve at their current position or to start a new one as Waubonsee offers courses across a diverse range of industries and occupations. Job Postings: Employment opportunities can be posted on the WCC site to find qualified undergraduate and graduate workers.  

Internship & Apprenticeship Programs: Eight-to-twelve week, no-cost, manufacturing and IT internships. Two-year apprenticeship positions are also available.

Federal Work-Study: Waubonsee Community College offers employment opportunities to students who qualify for federal tuition assistance.

Professional Development/Corporate Training: Waubonsee Community College’s noncredit professional development courses range in length from one day to a month or two, giving employees the skills to improve at their current position or to start a new one. Waubonsee offers courses in several specialized areas, including truck driver training, CNC Operators, and industrial plant operations.

Joliet Junior College
Joliet Junior College’s Corporate & Community Services provide both credit and non-credit programs for employers looking for a variety of training formats including short courses, one and two-day seminars and other flexibly scheduled workshops. Training programs offered include engineered technicians, renewable energy, forklift driving, warehousing & logistics, and refinery operations. These programs include hands on training to provide employees with on the job skills.

Workforce Development Office
Serving Kane, Kendall, and DeKalb Counties, the Workforce Development Office provides a services to eligible adults who need assistance in seeking and obtaining new employment or job skills enhancement through federally-funded programs under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA).

Job Posting: Advertise employment opportunities online and through partnership listings.

Pre-Screening & Referral Assistance: Reach a pool of skilled job candidates through this service.

Job Fairs & Recruitment Events: These events are organized, promoted and hosted through the WorkNet office.

On-the-Job Training: Grant funding to help offset training costs for new hires, with 50% wage reimbursement during training period.

Manufacturing Career Internship Programs (MCIP): Paid intern opportunities for young adults (ages 18-24), with a six-to-eight week, no cost internship, with no commitment to hire.

Incumbent Worker Training (IWT): Grant funding to assist with job-specific training for currently employed workers.

Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) 

Work Opportunity Tax Credit: Federal tax savings for employers hiring people from target groups such as veterans and youth.

Federal Fidelity Bonding: No-cost fidelity bonds protecting employers against potential employee dishonesty, theft or embezzlement.

Text & E-Blasts: Contact IDES to request specifically targeted employment messages through text and email to potential employees.

Kendall Youth Employment Program 
The Kendall Youth Employment Program (KYEP) serves youth aged 16-24 who have barriers to employment. KYEP is funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and it is implemented by the Grundy Kendall Regional Office of Education.
